State St, Athens, OH 45701 Speaker: Tessa Evanosky Meet the speaker! This month's theme, Preserve, will be handled by certified food nerd, Tessa Evanosky. The lecture will outline the basic process for homemade Kimchi, Sauerkraut, and Kombucha. Using salt and fresh organic ingredients, participants will walk away with everything they need to know to create their own preserved vegetables just in time for garden season! They will also learn how to grow a Kombucha mother using strong tea and a jar of ready made Kombucha from the grocery store. There will be free breakfast and Donkey Coffee at the event. Square Dance Calling Workshop at Stuart's Opera House Sunday, May 26, 2-4pm followed by a Square Dance in Stuart's lobby, 5-7pm Want to be a Square Dance Caller? Or just learn a few easy dances to call? Workshop #4 in the Southeast Ohio Musical Workshop Series is for you! Old time musician and Caller Joe Burdock will teach some basic calls as well as how to call with a live band. All participants will have the opportunity to practice with a group and try calling solo. Workshop to be followed by a Square Dance in Stuart's Opera House lobby Workshop 2-4pm; Square Dance 5-7pm All experience levels welcome Tickets $12-$22 at May 26 Calling Workshop or at door (no one turned away) More info at Square Dance Calling Workshop!                 OVST Youth Summer Camps 2019 June 3-21 at Arts West, 9am-12pm / 12-4pm REGISTRATION STILL OPEN      Session 1: Grades 1-6, Monday-Friday, June 3-21, 9am-12pm "Find your inner SUPER HERO" - Final free show for family and friends on June 21 at 11am. Participants will explore creatively with workshops and the performance of an original script by Faith Knutsen. Cost: $200 (3 weeks, AM) - Inquire about scholarship assistance if needed. Session 2: NEW!! Afternoon session, June 3-21, 12-4pm Campers bring brown bag lunch. We make, build, sew, decorate crafts for the camp show. Monday-Friday June 3-21, 12-4pm "I Hope I Get It!" - Final free show for family and friends on June 21 at 2:30pm.This glittering performance will show off the work campers have done to become "triple threats" at auditions (singing, dancing and acting). Focuses on building skills and confidence in theater work. A tech track is also available. Professional workshops will help campers build their own "company". Featuring Desserts by Twisted Sister Novelty Baked Goods Facebook event at: 3rd Thursday Square Dance Social GentleBirth Childbirth Education Workshop Saturday, May 18, 9am-3pm Sunday, May 19, 9am-1pm This is a two day GentleBirth workshop at Arts West Saturday, May 18th, from 9am to 3pm , and Sunday, May 19th from 9am to 1pm. GentleBirth Workshops provide expectant moms and partners easy to learn brain training techniques including Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Sports Psychology and Medical Hypnosis along with tools, information and techniques to prepare for the most positive birth possible. The cost is $250 per couple. Expecting mothers are welcome to bring their partner or whoever will be supporting them during labor and birth. Participants can also bring a pillow/yoga mat/etc to be comfortable during the relaxation exercises. Lunch will be included on Saturday, as well as snacks on both days. Enrollment for the program aims to serve up to  25 children. This program will focus on art forms such as visual art, theater, music and creative writing, as well as teach the art of Appalachian storytelling. Double Art Opening Friday, May 3, 5-7pm Main Gallery Jacob Parker: A Solo Show Jacob Parker has a series of offset printed artworks on display in the Arts West Main Gallery (upstairs) May 3rd-30th. The art opening will feature live music by the Water Witches plus food and drinks, all free and open to the public! Be prepared to think deeply about life, love and self-worth in this mind-opening show Jacob is a printmaker from North Carolina. Working primarily in relief and screen printing, he explores the intricacies involved in personal myth-making and self-identification, and the impact which it has on our interpersonal relationships. They love transforming big ideas into simple pieces and creating calm, inviting spaces. Purpose with playfulness is their jam! They have made a series of paintings for the Arts West Downstairs Gallery, which will be on display from May 3rd-31st. At the opening reception there will be food and beverages, as well as live piano music from Amy Abercrombie A portion of sales will also benefit the PRISM: LGBTQ Youth Art Program based in Athens, Ohio. Come check out their work, grab a bite, and support a good cause! About the Show: The world likes to shout - be more, be less, go faster, do more, more, more.
