Don't get the winter blues (many announcements)
We're gonna rock you right out of the pews. $4 cover.
Dear ARTS/West Fans!
We have so many great programs coming up in the New Year! To keep up with all the exciting arts happenings around here, we're streamlining the way we deliver upcoming news so that you hear about the stuff you are interested in, without getting bogged down by stuff that doesn't apply to you. To start off, we're gonna create an ARTS/West Youth e-newsletter, focusing on activities designed for Athens' children and youth.
Got kids at home? Know some young people who are interested in music, art, dance, or theater? If you do, just send us an email to artswest at ci. athens. oh. us with "YES!" in the subject line, and we'll add you to the new list! You'll get all the detailed, up-to-date information on workshops, classes, and performances by and for kids, teenagers, and families.
If you choose not to opt-in for the ARTS/West Youth updates, you'll still receive the same general ARTS/West announcements as before - and you can opt-out of those at any time, as well.
Thanks for staying connected to ARTS/West as we begin our 2009 programming! It's an exciting time for us, and we're glad to have you along for the ride. We'll see you there!

This is Your Invitation to Participatory Democracy!
Please come to the Town Meeting planned for January 29 at the Community Center. Our hope is that citizens will become involved in re-energizing and implementing the Comprehensive Plan developed a few years ago. During the meeting, after short presentations on the current state of the Plan, discussion groups will form to provide immediate feedback on priorities and directions. We will also begin the process of creating or joining with already existing groups to improve our community. This will be the first in a series of Town Meetings aimed at uniting our community and government. Please accept our invitation to engage in truly participatory democracy in our town!
Athens is a wonderful community!
Come join your neighbors to help make it an even better place.
The Mayor's Office, the Athens City Comprehensive Plan Review and Advisory Committee, the executive committees of the Neighborhood Associations, the Athens City Planner, the Athens County Land Use Plan Steering Committee, the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce and Ohio University's Office of Off-Campus Living invite Athens area residents to a Town Hall Meeting on Thursday, January 29th from 6:30 to 8:30 PM at the Community Center on East State Street. Between 2002 and 2006 citizens were involved in creating a comprehensive plan to provide long-term guidance for our city. Now it is implementation time. Come to the meeting to:
· Hear about the status of the Athens 2020 Comprehensive Plan
· Discuss how to implement the plan
· Organize into Interest Groups to find ways to move the plan forward
This first in a series of Town Hall meetings will have two priorities:
· An update on the comprehensive plan, provided by the Mayor and the Comprehensive Plan Review and Advisory Committee
· Residents and businesses organizing into new or already existing groups to discuss implementation of the plan
There will be a follow up Town Hall meeting on March 12th at the Community Center.
If weather forces city roads to be closed on January 29th, the Town Hall meeting will be held on February 5 at the Community Center from 6:30 to 8:30 PM.
The Athens 2020 Comprehensive Plan can be viewed at http://www.ci.athens.oh.us/comp_plan.cfm
Please forward this to your membership groups, friends, co-workers and neighbors.
Hey TCOM and/or Film students!
ARTS/West is looking to create a 30 second promotional video about the great stuff we do - education, performances, what have you. Wanna help us make an ARTS/West advertisement, to help get the word out about Athens Community Gateway to the Arts? You will be able to use the spot in your portfolio of work, and the video will be distributed to granting agencies and potential sponsors on the regional and national level. Additionally, we are seeking funds to have the spot shown on local television and before the previews at local movie theaters.
We're looking for a motivated and capable producer who can help us show what great activities and events ARTS/West has to offer to our community. If interested, please call Emily Prince, Program Specialist at 740-592-4315 or email at eprince at ci. athens. oh. us We'd love to see a sample of your work and talk about the best way to get our message out to the community.
The staff and patrons (more than 23,000 people!) of ARTS/West thank you for your help!
