Benefit concert for Angels and Wings artist in communities multi-media dance peice.

The Athens community is invited to participate in the creation of a dance theatre piece investigating close to death experiences. “Close to death” is meant to be interpreted according to the subject’s point of view. For example: Has someone you love had cancer? Has your lifetime pet passed away? Have you been to war? Have you been with someone as they died? Anyone seeking to express their creative voice or share their story is welcome to participate. Experience is not necessary.

“Angels and Wings” is presented in partnership with ARTS/West, Athens Friends Meeting and the Athens community. Funding by Athens Foundation, and the Ohio Arts Council.

About Missy Whaley: Since 1989 when Missy Whaley started her dance company, MinDCollision, her intention has been to bring art and the artistic process directly to communities. She has created several solos, duets, and trios, and her participants are often a blend of professionals and non-trained community members. Melissa’s work explores the use of dance, words, music and film to present a rich multi-layering of images and experiences that capture the diversity and complexity of the human spirit.

For interviews or additional information contact Missy at 740-797-7107 or missyw4peace@yahoo.com.

A message about MLK day from our friend Zen

Hey. This is Zen at Casa Nueva. I am getting this out to people a little late this year, but we are having our MLK day celebration on Monday the 15th. The celebration begins at 5pm, with a southern sou food dinner, and special entertainment begins at 8pm with an open mic for poets. There will be a DJ set-up available for DJ's to perform some short sets. Live MC performances from the Disfunctional Family, D Jones, and some of the hip-hop shop all-stars. At about 10pm we will have a moment of silence for those who have been victims on both sides of conflict in Iraq, and current poverty and violence happening in New Orleans, and then we will listen to the I have a dream speech. I would really like to see you all at this celebration. It is my hope that this celebration will continue to grow but we need your support. We will be going until 2am so come for dinner or come and enjoy some free entertainment. -thanks. pass this one to anyone you feel would enjoy this event!

Otherwise, I hope everyone had a swell Holiday season. It was great to see so many people at the Noise Show on Sunday and I think we can all agree that the biggest hit of the evening was the Mutant Gelatinous Coconut. If you have called in the last two weeks I will be calling you back today or tomorrow. I forgot to leave a message on the machine that I was out of town. Oops, can't say that won't ever happen again. Also, we are happy to receive any items you would like to re-gift.
