Double Art Opening


 Barry O'Keefe & Luke Boyd

Old Haunts: Barry O'Keefe Art Opening - Friday, August 2, 5-7pm
Barry will visit Athens from Richmond, VA, to say hello, and show his new body of work, Old Haunts, in the Arts West Upstairs Gallery. Barry graduated with a Masters in Printmaking from Ohio University several years ago. His notable artworks in the Athens, Ohio, area include the Nelsonville Brick mural, and the leather-bound book mural near the Nelsonville Public Library. Barry's work focuses on community building, activism and histories. Check out his work and enjoy some live music with Ted Harris on August 2nd! The exhibit will be on display August 2 - 28.

Crumbles: Luke Boyd Art Opening - Friday, August 2, 5-7pm
As part of this double art opening, Luke will exhibit his new ​showCrumbles, in the Art West Downstairs Gallery along with a plethora of cakes to eat for FREE. An artist and baker, with a recently acquired Masters in Painting & Drawing from OU, Luke is interested in building community through baking, painting and sharing cake. The cake paintings illustrate different human emotions and conditions. Luke's work will be on display August 2nd-28th.

CreativeMornings is a monthly inspirational, networking breakfast for the Athens creative community. Everyone is welcome! July's speaker, Danette Pratt, is a retired biological illustrator, textile artist, workshop instructor and creator of SeriouslySickSocks™ (zombie and classic monster sock monkeys). Thursday, August 1, 6-8pm: 1st Thursday Old Time String Jam.
Arts West and The Southeast Ohio Musical Lending Library are continuing to host the 1st Thursday Old Time String Jam. Each month features a jam leader who will play, call chords and help new players follow along. This week's guest is local musician Jaie Devore. Jaie specializes in old time fiddle tunes from WV and will share 2 to 3 of those tunes. The musical lending library will be open for those wishing to borrow an instrument. This FREE event takes place outside when the weather cooperates or in the basement of Arts West. All ages and levels welcome. BYOB with valid 21+ ID.

Open stage hosted by John E. Goettge featuring Steve Zarate and Chris Biester with special appearance by 8 AM Band

Commemorative Tasting Glasses $15 at the door (CASH ONLY) or $12 pre-sale
Pre-sale glasses can be purchased at Athens Do-It-Yourself Shop or via e-mail to q@athensdiy.com. Must be 21 or over to participate


Free glass with the submission of keg or case. A submission must consist of 6-12 bottles minimum or at least 2 gallons in a keg

Submission can be brought the day of the competition or dropped off
at Athens Do-It-Yourself Shop

All submissions must be entered by 6:30pm. Ballots due at 8:00pm
and Awards will be announced at 8:30pm.

and taking place at Stuart's Opera House 


Join us for a rock-style full drum kit workshop with Jess Makosky!
 (beginner level - recommended for ages 12 and up)


Jess has been playing drums for over 15 years.  Most recently seen playing in the Revulvas, she has also played with Amethystone and taught at Athens Rock Camp for Girls for several years.  Her self-taught drumming style makes her a natural teacher and we are pleased to add her to our workshop series. 

To help make this accessible to all, please choose the ticket type that works best for you. There is a suggested donation of $12, but no one will be turned away. Scholarships are available by contacting Tessa Evanosky at artswesttech@gmail.com.
