City offices will be closed on Wednesday, August 6th, 2014 to observe its annual Safety and Wellness Day. Emergency response staff will continue on normal operational hours.
The 11th annual Safety and Wellness Day is an opportunity to bring city staff together in order to maintain continual awareness of workplace and personal safety. The event includes a number of seminars and activities that have a focus on different aspects of employee safety and well-being. The day also includes vendors that specialize in safety products and wellness checks from area health services.
The Safety and Wellness Day has been observed by city staff since the unfortunate passing of Michael Stanley on August 3rd, 2003. Mike was the Instrument Technician for the city of Athens when he lost his life while serving the citizens of Athens.
