Thumbelina, The story of a Little Girl

ARTS/West, is pleased to host Last Minute Panic Productions' performance of Thumbelina, The story of a Brave Little Girl on March 5, 2010 at 7:00pm.

Thumbelina, The story of a Brave Little Girl is adapted by Liza Lentini based on the story by Hans Christian Anderson and is a FREE 30 minute production for the whole family.

One morning, Mama's dearest wish is granted when a rosebud opens and Thumbelina, the tiniest, loveliest and bravest of girls, emerges. Thumbelina and Mama are very happy until a Froggy Mama kidnaps Thumbelina, intending for her to marry her boorish, burpy son. With a big dose of bravery, and a little help from a friendly Beetle, Thumbelina escapes on a lily pad across the water.

Her adventure continues when a hungry Spider captures her. It takes all of her wits, and a bit of help from the audience, for Thumbelina to break free from the web. She next befriends an injured Sparrow who teaches her the value of sharing your time and to appreciate new food (gummy worms!). As the Sparrow heals under Thumbelina's care, a storm of clouds descends. Thinking quickly, Thumbelina enlists the audience's help in blowing the clouds away, and she and the now healthy Sparrow fly home to a joyful Mama.

With just four actors playing twelve roles, this whirlwind production is high energy, calling upon the help of the audience to make sure Thumbelina finds her way home. The bright costumes and minimal set encourage a child's imagination. Yet with enough jokes for the adults to appreciate, this production is sure to leave the audience laughing and wishing that they too could defeat a blood sucking mosquito or fly high above the clouds on the back of a sparrow.

Thumbelina, The story of a Brave Little Girl will be presented at ARTS/West on at 7:00pm and is Friday, March 5, 2010 FREE and open to the public.

Hot Buttered Art

February 5, 2010, 5:00pm-9:00pm.
ARTS/West presents the "Hot Buttered Art" art opening by Emily Beveridge.
All Paintings are based on songs.

Artist statement: "Using spray paint, acrylic, and marker, my work tends to have a childlike, naïve quality to it. Yet the images are rich with symbolism and subversion. Many of the pieces are symmetrical, which contrasts nicely and gives order to the more whimsical elements. Themes that are often explored in my work are animals, tragic humor, and personal memories. For influences, I find myself drawn to folk art, works made by other cultures, cartoons, and religious iconography."

Learn more about Emily Beveridge by checking out her website HERE

DJ Barticus will be on hand and please enjoy light refreshments at the opening on February 5th.
