Project description:"Till the End of the Road" is a road trip movie about the unlikely relationship that develops between a bank robber and a hostaged bank teller. As they attempt to find ways to escape, their stories unfold, and thus embark on a next phase in their lives.

"Angels and Wings"

Choreographer Missy Whaley will help Angels and Wings participants develop their own performances that give expression to an experience shared by other community member. Video artist Steve Fetsch and lighting designer Dennis Cornell will work with participating visual artists. Missy will guide these performances and visual elements and weave them into a public performance at ARTS/West.

The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. Additional financial support from the Athens Foundation. Digital video equipment was generously provided by the Athens County Library Services.

Film Class!


FILM SCHOOL for AGES 10 – 15 March-May 2007

A collaboration between the Dairy Barn Arts Center and ARTS/West
Want to learn all the elements that go toward making a movie by actually doing it? You will get the chance to write, act, direct and edit your movies. You will have the opportunity to find out which side of the camera you want to be on.

This course is designed so that students can achieve the most creative success in what they want to do as filmmakers. The course will be as interesting for new students as it is for our veteran movie buffs.

The course is designed to take place over a period of 5 weeks (students will not meet during week 1 and 2 and between week 2 and 4) meeting for two hours a night at the Dairy Barn, and occasionally at ARTS/West.

The instructor for this course is Carolina Conte. Carolina was awarded her PhD in Interdisciplinary Arts, Film and Theater in 2005 from Ohio University. Originally from Brazil, Carolina is currently working in New York City as an editor and keeping current in film and theater. Carolina has worked in all aspects of the film and theater industry and has extensive experience in various processes and mediums.

Course Fee: $320
(4 weeks = $80 per week)
Minimum # of students for course is 8

Wk 4/ April 30-May 4, 5-7pm
Opening May 6, 6-8pm

*Fee includes all materials, snacks, & supplies. Students will receive two finished DVDs of their film when they are completed.

What's it About?
The story centers around Gerda, her sister Kate and their friends. When Kate is kidnapped by the evil Snow Queen, Gerda must set out on a journey to reach the Snow Queen's castle and rescue Kate before her heart turns to ice. She is helped along the way by some interesting people and creatures including two talking crows, one talking river, one beautiful princess, one dashing prince, one not-so-dashing prince, a garden of talking flowers and the women who tends to them, a Lapp Woman, a Finn Woman, a band of robbers, a pigeon and a reindeer. Sure to warm your heart and tickle your funny bone, The Snow Queen is a journey of the heart not to be missed!

The Royales, here's the jig

Tonight , Friday, February 9th, The Royales are playing. (ARTS/West 132 W. State Street)
Doors open at 6:30 pm.
The Royales will start at 7:00 pm.
They will take a break, you should then buy their cd.
They will play until 9:00.
There is some food (Extremely delicious hors d'overes) but it is not a meal so snack before you come.
It is family friendly.

Here it is, February!

February is all about the love! I am sorry these posts have been late in coming but as the song goes I'm "all by myself..."

P.S. HUGE, BIG, ENORMOUS THANK YOU to The Ohio Arts Council, The Athens Foundation, The Hocking Valley Bank, The Olympian Founders, all of the renters, presenters, teachers, artists, audience members, volunteers, etc. who work in, around, and for ARTS/West.

The most exciting thing has happened. The Parks and Recreation has proposed a name change to" Athens Community Arts, Parks, and Recreation Department" It is all thanks to you. I never, never (maybe a little sometimes in my personal life when I am watching tv or reading exciting novels) do I overlook your contributions. So, Thanks!
