OVST Brings Together Athens Theater Talent For Thriller

Wait Until Dark playing now through Saturday, June 30

(Athens-OH) –Ohio Valley Summer Theater brings together theater talent from across the area in their first offering of the summer, Frederick Knott’s psychological thriller Wait Until Dark. Emily Prince, events coordinator at ARTS/West, returns to the OVST director’s chair to steer an experienced cast from one tense moment of excitement to another.

Christina “Chica” Salerno, director of the Studio for Young Actors, takes a turn on stage in the lead role of Suzy Hendrix, a blind Greenwich Village housewife who matches wits and a few punches with a sinister con-man and two ex-cons. Conspiring against her are Ohio University School of Theater graduates, Hayley Van Meter and Thomas O’Donnell. They are joined in treachery by Andrew Crabtree as they search for a mysterious doll whose value is worth killing for.

Award winning designer and School of Theater faculty member, Dan Denhart, designed the Wait Until Dark set. Fellow faculty member Lowell Jacobs designed sound. Hocking College instructor and theater director, Kate Enger serves as props master, and Nellie Werger contributes another spot-on costume design.

Assistant director Timothy Aranyos and several members of the student theater group, The Lost Flamingos, contribute with energy and excitement to this first installment of a three show OVST summer season. Opening June 29 at ARTS/West and playing through July 7 is the second highly anticipated revival of The Appalachian Green Parks Project & Friends. Following an amazingly successful Spring run, this expanded AGPP & Friends will include even more of the group’s original members, including: Bruce and Gay Dalzell, Charlie and Celia Lewis, Connie Winters, Jim McGaw, David Toney and Bill Mullins. The OVST summer season concludes with an all-time favorite, Meredith Willson’s The Music Man, directed by Bob Winters.
